The 1930s semis that dominate Bromley came with generous plots, and the trees planted then are now mature. That produces steady demand for crown reduction, deadwood removal and storm damage work, alongside straightforward felling where a tree has outgrown its position or is undermining a boundary.

Protection is the first question. Bromley Council holds the Tree Preservation Order register and the borough contains numerous conservation areas. Work on a protected tree without consent is an offence under section 210 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, with government guidance putting the penalty at up to £20,000 in the magistrates' court and an unlimited fine at Crown Court in serious cases. In a conservation area, section 211 requires six weeks' written notice instead.

By height, it puts felling at £150 to £350 for a tree under 25ft and £1,200 to £4,800 or more for one over 75ft, with stump and waste usually extra. On large Bromley plots, access is often better than in inner London, which can keep costs towards the middle of those ranges rather than the top.

Ask about public liability cover and Arboricultural Association membership before booking. Also ask what happens to the arisings, since chipping and removal are sometimes priced separately from the felling itself.
